The Knowland heritage and business, civic and cultural leadership are part of Oakland's history.

Dee Knowland is a REALTOR whose professional background has been a major asset to her Real Estate business. She served as President and CEO of her own national, sales/marketing corporation, and was founder/proprietor of Oakland's unique health and beauty center, "The Best Me."

Dee also has been a member of the following Boards of Directors:

  • WAIF National Advisory Board
  • Oakland Symphony Board
  • Oakland Ballet Advisory Board
  • Paramount Theatre of the Arts Board.

In addition, Dee has chaired major fund-raising efforts for:

  • Oakland Children's Hospital
  • San Francisco Children's Hospital
  • Jonas Salk Medical Research Institute
  • Oakland Symphony Orchestra
  • Oakland Ballet
  • Boys Town and Girl's Town of Italy, San Francisco
  • Oakland Junior League projects

Dee and her husband, Joe Knowland, co-chaired financing the restoration of Oakland's Paramount Theatre of The Arts, resulting in its designation as a National Historical Landmark.

Joe (also a licensed Real Estate agent) is the former award-winning Publisher and Editor of The Oakland Tribune. In addition, he has been a member of the following Boards of Directors:

  • Mills College
  • California College of Arts & Crafts
  • San Francisco Screen Actors Guild.
